Yesterday's Adventures
Shortly after Doug began school (just six short weeks after arriving to America), he became good friends with Luke. When Luke came home and told his mom there was a new boy in his class that didn't know English yet, his mom told him about how lonely and hard it had been for her when she was seven years old and her parents moved from El Salvador to the United States and put her into school even though she didn't know any English yet. Luke took Doug under his wing from the very start! Almost two years later, they are still inseperable buddies. Both boys have such empathetic, compasionate natures that they were bound to bond to each other! Luke is such a sweet kid and he has been such a good, good friend for Doug. I hear "Luke stories" every day. They are close buddies in school and out of school. Luke's family are the only ones that have ever invited Doug over to play (he is a handful, afterall). He has spent the evening alone over at their house twice this year. Luke has been over to our house once (before yesterday). When his Mom and older sister came to pick him up after his first visit to our house, we made the pleasant discovery that Darcy and Luke's older sister, Sabrina, enjoyed each other's company, too. (Sabrina is two years younger than Darcy.) Doug has been dying to have Luke back over again. Yesterday, Luke, his mom (Izzy), and older sister Sabrina spent the day with us. All five of the kids had a blast. Izzy and I rather enjoyed ourselves, too.
Anyway, I will give you the pictorial summary of our day!...

First of all, Doug absolutely HAD to show Luke the dobro that he is so proud of! He even gave Luke a few quick lessons on using the finger picks and slide! Doug is still amazed that HE has a DOBRO of his very own! He takes very good care of it and is so careful with it.

Darcy enjoyed showing Sabrina several of her games on our computer. I think they got the most amusement out of the game where Granny (in tropical paradise) rescues stray cats and tries not to get knocked down by the evil trolls! Of course her generation is too young to appreciate some of the humor built into that silly game...like when Granny gets knocked over (ending the game of course) she calls out "Help! I've fallen over and I can't get up!" Izzy and I got more of a chuckle from that line than the girls could have!

I will have to finish this post later...the kids are trampling down the stairs, though still bleary eyed(!)...so I need to stop and get breakfast served and our day started. Check back later for the rest of this story. (Also, I think blogger must limit us to five pics per post? Anyway, the final seven that I have been trying to upload to this post haven't "taken" this morning...so, I will finish the narrative on this post and have to go to a new post to finish out my pick of yesterday's photos.)
