  Pi Guy
Strikes Again...
Hello, all! Have to brag a bit on my nephew!... Living in Texas, he was a student at the Azle High School. His school had been publically chastised earlier this year for their 'poor academics', so Aaron (aka Pi Guy) took it upon himself to set the record straight! He, along with the rest of the group from Azle, went to the Texas State competitions recently. Pi Guy easily nabbed TWO first places (mathematics and calculator applications) and ONE second place (number sense--where they complete 80 problems in ten minutes or less) in the state math categories.

Aaron was the proudest of his second place (numbers sense) as the competition was the stiffest in that category! Aaron's first place winning scores topped those of all students in all divisions (including the larger 5A schools). Others from Azle also competed in several different categories in the journalism division, too.... but, Pi Guy's winning points were 80% of the entire Azle math team's take and 50% of the take for ALL the Azle team members in ALL subjects....with Pi Guy's huge point take, the Azle team won FIRST place in the category of Overall Academics in the state of Texas. There was a huge write up in the newspaper with a great photo of Aaron on the front page! After, putting little Azle on the map, Aaron decided to move on to Missouri to make his next mark...

Friday, he traveled to Rolla, Missouri where he will be attending college. Silly folks there, insisted that he take a math proficiency test! Pi Guy LOVES math tests...does them in his spare time for ENJOYMENT(!), so that fit his idea of a good way to spend his day! He was a bit disappointed in the test though. He had thought it being a COLLEGE test, it would have something challenging in it. After going through the tedium of completing the rather disappointing test, he turned it in. He was a bit surprised by the buzz it generated, though....seems that NO ONE in the entire history of the University of Missouri-Rolla's existance has EVER scored 100% on that math test, until this past Friday when Pi Guy struck once more! Before the poor kid could figure out what all the buzz was about, ALL the math department faculity had pointed him out to each other....anonyminity blown! Oh well! Aaron just has to make history wherever he lands!

Congratulations Pi Guy!!!

  • Annika is my niece. She was born with bilary atresia and had to have her first major surgery at the age of 6 weeks. Just before she turned a year old, she had to have a liver transplant. Two and a half months later, she had to have a second transplant. Now, five years old, she needs a third transplant and her family's insurance is nearly maxed out so a COTA fund has been established to raise the money needed.
(Please click on the little bear button above to donate to her COTA account or to view the raffles and other projects that are in progress to build the fund. If you have crafts, etc, that you could donate to be sold/raffled, this would also help greatly!)
