From Grandma C
Dear Bloggers,
We may be posted as Aaron, but this is Grandma C. I wrote something earlier and we didn't get it through. So, try,try again. We have been working with the bead stuff today. I haven't done one yet. Granddad did one, and we got if off. We are going to wait until we get home for anything else. We are planning on a family thing at our house on June 5th. We can do something together. Love, Grandma C.

I can't let a day pass without posting at least a picture....

Here we go again!...
I don't know what I am going to do with you kids who keep insisting on posting in ways that are unreadable (Adam's black on black...Darcy's "different font")...
Anyway, here is what Darcy wrote to Aaron, except that I have put it INTO A FONT THAT IS READABLE....

WHOOPEE, you FINALLY got on my blog and FINALLY posted somthing!!!!!!!!!
I can't help myself to putting my post in a different font!!!

Close-up of Rayna's face as she "played air guitar" while the other three kids sang!....

Rayna is suppose to be SINGING, but I thenk she is playing "air guitar" instead!!!!

The kids launching into "In the Highways" in Oak Grove, Missouri yesterday evening...

What we look like to the Tanagers! (There are THREE of them targeting the southern side of our home now! Two females and one male.)

Waiting for Daddy to finish cooking the spaghetti...

Lazy Sunday afternoons...Darcy treating a head-ache with an M&M pack?

Those delightful Sunday mornings....listening to a story with bluegrass gospel music playing in the background as they wait on Mommy to get ready for Sunday School.
Aaron's Watching
I just got yet another computer...because I keep crashing the old ones. They boot up, then immediately need rebooting. Haha. I don't even do anything yet. Well anyway, this looks fun.
I guess I'm bestowed the name "Pi Guy" by my dearest aunt. Okay. At least it doesn't have anything to do with lousy pastries or fried bread with sugar dumpings.
"It was an accent!"
I get a bang out of Rayna's rapidly expanding vocabulary! She has no compunction against using words that she hasn't quite logged correctly yet into her memory....like a moment ago when I overheard her assuring Darcy that she hadn't done something intentionally...."It was an accent!"!
We have yet to convince her that if you have a viral infection, you can say, "I have a cold." To her that makes NO sense. She insists on asking people, "Do you have a cold nose?" THAT makes sense to her!

Okay, bird lovers out there...what kind of bird is this? Is it an indigo bunting or is it something else? It is a tiny, vibrant blue colored bird. It was eating the berries in this tree in our back yard yesterday evening...

(uncropped)

Rayna & Doug with Doug's bus driver (Bert). Two kids ride the "bus" (actually a mini-van from the bus company)...Doug and a ten year old girl named Courtney (absent today). Bert spoils Courtney and Doug something fierce (note the SPRITE in Doug's hand!)...he also gave Doug and each of his sisters some beef jerky today. Doug almost always comes home with some great treat....yesterday it was a king-sized butterfinger, the day before that a Live Wire Orange Mountain Dew....etc!

Making my own cool crayon tee shirt!
Cool Crayon Tee Shirts...
Hey, guys, this is a cool project you can do....
Using crayons, create and color a picture or design on your cotton tee shirt. Put the shirt on an ironing board. Place a sheet of wax paper over the picture or design. Place an iron on the cotton setting and have an adult iron the back of the wax paper for 15-30 seconds. This will make your design permanent!

On luna moths, yellow speckled king snakes, and hatchling box turtles...
First I want to correct myself. A bit ago as I was perusing the internet to put a luna moth link in the post below, I read that they are'common'...which disagrees with the nature guide we have here at our house that refers to them as an endagered type of moth. Also, it seems that in the moth stage of their lives, they do not EAT...thus they cannot be at fault for the quarter sized holes that decorate the fine screening over our northern exposure windows. They just have been unfortunate enough to pick the holes to rest over--thus looking like the guilty party, I guess!
Also wanted to mention the gorgeous yellow speckled king snake we encountered sunning himself on the gravel road yesterday. He was about three feet long. He is the FIRST yellow speckled king snake I have ever seen in the wild. Mostly we have the more irritable prairie king snakes on our land. (Be careful if you pick up one of those! They are quite disagreeable!) I hope we wind up with more of the yellow speckled ones on our land. They are much prettier than the prairie kings and have a sweeter temperament.
Day before yesterday, we saw a young male box turtle crossing our gravel road. (You can tell the males from the females by their eye color. Males have red eyes.) We haven't seen any hatchling box turtles this year. They are ADORABLE...their shells no larger in diameter than a nickel! A couple of Springs back, there were quite a few of them around. We kept one through the summer in a 'turtle garden'...a small area just outside our school room window that we bordered with a natural rock wall in a circle...with the top of a birdbath in the center (partially buried) to make a 'pond'. We let the growth inside the circle get pretty wild and added in an old log to burrow beneath. Our little turtle was really hard to find in the garden...kind of a living "Where's Waldo" game each day! We fed the little guy mealy worms regularly. By the end of the summer, he had grown enough to be able to scale the wall and one day ventured out into the wild on his own. We still have our turtle garden...but no new hatchling to foster in it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not only does our lovely tanAger body-slam his beak into our windows at a full tilt kamakazee speed about forty trillion times a day (ie, at least forty separate assault SERIES every single hour during daylight), but, in between attacks, he rests by clutching onto our flimsey window screen with his sharp little talons! Prior to now, the only danger to our flimsey screening was the endangered Luna Moths which are anything BUT rare around our house. (They are gorgeous luminous pale green moths about the size of your outspread hand.) Unfotunately, they also seem driven to beat their bodies against our windows (when it is dark outside but light in our house) and they, too like to rest, clinging to our screening EATING holes in it!
Squirrels (by Yea Yea)
Good poem pick. The squirrels in our back yard are really frisky these early mornings. Yesterday we watched one swing down on a FLIMSY tree limb jump to our table umbrella and scamper away. They are such fun creatures to watch - almost as fun as your BIRDS!
~Grandma Yea Yea
Last week's Poem Pick:
THE SQUIRREL
Whisky, frisky,
Hippity hop,
Up he goes
To the tree top!
Whirly, twirly,
Round and round,
Down he scampers
To the ground.
Furly, curly,
What a tail!
Tall as a feather,
Broad as a sail!
Where's his supper?
In the shell,
Snappity, crackity,
Out it fell!
A Change in Format
Well, Darcy FINALLY decided to get onto her blog to write....when it was BEDTIME last night!!! So, of course that didn't happen! She is bound to flex her fingers on it later this morning, though!
In the meantime, I thought I would let everyone know that I am trying to make the blog more 'user-friendly' for the grandparents... I am working on converting all the previous
comments to
posts so that the comments formerly hidden BEHIND each post (in a separate window) will now show up immediately beneath the post so they can be read without moving between multiple windows.
So far, I have only gotten through to about May 7th or 8th in this converting. You can see them in the archive section under "May". I was planning on just keeping EVERYTHING on the opening page (not using archives for earlier posts), but that is not practical as it makes the opening page way too cumbersome to work with. So...just start out in "Archives-May" to begin with and you won't miss anything--neither the newest additions nor the oldest posts!
"THEY MY BEST FRIENDS!!!"
This morning, as Mr. and Mrs. Tanniger reported for assualt duty, Darcy started to shoo them away from our school room window. Rayna reacted with such fervor as she pleaded, "Don't shoo them! They my BEST friends!!!!" Rayna is now self appointed ambassador for those destructive tannigers! No one is allowed to deter them from their assault on our southern exposure windows as long as Rayna is about!
Rayna gleefully riding her bike on the drive...undeterred by the danger of the malicious birds!
LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE TANNIGERS!!!
